film, television, music, annoyances, and whatever else tickles my fancy.

Oscars Red Carpet 2011

E! has 2 hours of red carpet coverage. heaven.

jennifer lawrence looks great. great color and cut. nothing over the top. classy.

guiliana ranSICK looks like an emaciated alien as always.

melissa leo somehow manages to find the most matronly, mother-of-the-bride looking gowns. i dont get it.

hailee steinfeld looks incredibly age appropriate while still being fashionable and pretty. well done.

OMG!!!! michelle williams and busy phillips are each other's dates. dawson's creek reunion. that could be the highlight of my night.

mila kunis looks beautiful as usual.

russell brand is hilarious. i love his choice of words.

michelle williams looks STUNNING. that chanel dress is gorgeous. she seemed to be talking slightly odd, though.

umm... who is that with mark ruffalo? not digging her dress at all.

"Love and Other Drugs" review

i would like to preface this review by saying i have always (well, since about 1999 when i saw him in October Sky) LOVED jake gyllenhaal, and this movie only intensified that love.

i was very excited to see this movie, and had been for a while. i read some reviews before hand, most of them positive, but there were a few that sited "too many/graphic sex scenes" and "not enough story" as the downfall of the movie. first i'll address the sex scenes. yes, there were a lot, and yes, they were fairly intense. however, from the not-so-nice reviews, i was expecting something borderline boogie nights. it was
nothing like that. anne hathaway does show off her assets A LOT and jake's bum gets some camera time, but the sex scenes were not overly gratuitous. (they're both gorgeous, so it wasn't hard to watch.) it really did show the passion and connection they had in their relationship, and how it developed.

As far as the story... I found it to be fairly predictable (as most romantic comedies are) and in need of a little more depth. there was complexity to the characters, but they were borderline one dimensional to me. i mean, there was hardly any backstory for maggie (anne hathaway's character) and the little biographical information we got on jamie (jake gyllenhaal) wasn't really enough to care about his success in his job. SLIGHT SPOILER: his family are all very successful doctors/medical professionals, and while jamie had great potential, he chose not to follow the same path as to not give his father the "satisfaction"... not to mention he had ADD and couldnt pay attention in college. that little spoiler is about as in depth as described in the film.

that being said, there is genuine chemistry (lots... like, crazy lots) between jake and anne, as you might remember from their early relationship in Brokeback Mountain... ya know, before she found out he was gay.

while it wasnt quite as deep and tear-jerking as i thought it was going to be, it still was a good film and i'm glad i saw it. perhaps viewing it a second time, i would catch some things i missed the first time. also, a little fun fact... in my producing class in college, we skyped with the producer of this movie. he said jake and anne were two of the nicest, sweetest people you'd ever meet... which only makes me mad that i dont know them in real life.

2010 VMA's

9:00 - am i the only one who isnt on the eminem train? i get that he's overcome a lot and blah, blah, blah... i'm just not a fan. and GREAT! there's rihanna. one of the worst live singers i've ever heard (besides taylor swift). i'm ready for the opening to be over.

9:06 - hahaha. lindsay and chelsea interaction will always be great. the cheesecake factory line was great. and chelsea as gaga is great, too. the dove trick obviously didnt go off as planned.

9:11 - i know chelsea's thing is making fun of celebs, but sometimes i just find her obnoxious. i know a lot of my friends (evan, jessi, meagan) will be mad at me for saying that, but i just dont think she's that funny. sorry... =(

9:14 - best female video: kesha's video wasnt that good, so i hope she doesnt win. i cant stand taylor swift so i hope she doesnt win. i'm pulling for gaga because her videos are always so creative. it goes to gaga! woo! and she's wearing the shoes! the alexander mcqueen alien heels!

(side note: the dj's disco mickey mouse mask is awesome)

9:24 - jackass guys on stage. knoxville is hot. i can't help it. HAHAHA the giant antiquing hand was fantastic. ok best rock video.... i want florence and the machine to win i think, or paramore. it goes to....... 30 seconds to mars. that's cool i guess. i downloaded that video because it was free on itunes one week. it's pretty cool, actually.

9:28 - biebs is performing. it cracks me up how little he is. pretty sure he's lip synching. probably just wants to make a good impression since this is his first vma performance. i get it. focusing on the dancing and performance aspect rather than the singing. we all know boy can belt it out. i'm guessing the reason for having the pre-school dancers is to make justin look normal sized. pretty sure he's just trying to look cool with his drum playing cuz it's obvious that he's not that great. he just bangs around on them. oh well. it's over. decent job, biebs.

9:38 - usher. of course they have to put him and bieber next to each other since they're bff's. i dont know about anyone else, but i'm ready for timberlake to get off his acting high and put out another album. i'll take JT over "ursher" any day.

9:44 - i LOVE katy perry's dress. LOVE IT. idk that other chick. she looks like when kelly from the office dressed up as the chick from the fifth element. anyway.... eminem left already. typical.

9:52 - i must say i prefer chelsea handler in these little skits rather than her live stuff in front of the camera. the skits have been pretty funny.

9:53 - YES! florence and the machine! it's funny that this album came out over a year ago, but this song is just getting big cuz of the "eat, pray, love" trailer. either way, at least her music's out. her voice is outstanding.

9:57 - what an odd segue from florence to a commercial. travie mccoy....?? ok and now n.e.r.d. and ciara just appeared. hmm.... unfortunate timing, cuts, or just awkward in general?? pharrell is diggin on ciara hard. i mean, i get it. just sayin.

10:04 - i love that kesha and katy perry keep getting announced next to each other cuz it just shows how similar their songs are. i'm guessing gaga will win. and it goes to............ gaga. i get the fashion is important, but maybe the outrageous dress could get some practical shoes so it doesnt take an army to get her onstage. ok she just read my mind and apologized for being slow moving. apology accepted.

10:08 - ugh. taylor swift. not. a. fan. i really hope she's investing in voice lessons cuz i just think her voice is so weak and untrustworthy. i am not a fan of country music, and i dont listen to her music unless forced, but i think she's a better songwriter than a performer. i'll just have to wait this out... blah.

10:21 - is it sad that i'm more excited about justin timberlake presenting drake than i'd ever EVER be about drake performing? and by the introduction, it seems that JT missed being in front of a live audience. new album, please, JT.

10:29 - umm, evan rachel wood and chris evans making out all over some perfume? jeeze...

10:33 - i like chelsea's shoes.

10:35 - best hip hop video. i guess i'll vote for jay-z just cuz i think he could have someone kill me if he wanted to. eminem won. he's not there.

side note: i'd like to let everyone reading this (all 3 of you) that i've never watched an episode of jersey shore. i'm very proud of this.

10:42 - b.o.b. w/ hayley williams but i'm more excited about paramore. that's her element. i hope they pick it up with something fast but old school. maybe "pressure" or somethin else from the first album...?? no. that's ok. she's still awesome.

10:54 - biebs wins best new artist. BFD.

10:55 - emma stone!! yay! linkin park? hmm, didnt see that one coming. i'm being taken back to my sophomore year of high school.

11:04 - cher!! in "THE" outfit. lady gaga wins video of the year!!! yay for her! nice little impromptu song except my step dad came in to talk to me and i missed it. but he saw enough to say, "is that lady gaga? i dont see what the big deal is.... i think she's a freak." typical. i'm so glad the coming generations are increasingly more open minded.

and now.... seeing as how i could care less about kanye west, not because of the taylor swift thing, solely because i'm not big into rap music. so i'll probably end the blogging here. although i am curious to see the crowd's reaction after he's done. perhaps i'll stick around.

ppl applauded and started chanting "kanye" so i guess he's back. about time. taylor swift backlash is in full effect.

2010 EMMY'S!!!!

i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE jimmy fallon.

8:00 -this opening is decent so far... i love hurley from lost in the glee group.
-- haha!!! tim gunn!!!
-- jimmy gets sooooooo into this stuff. i remember when he hosted the VMA's in like 2001 or something, he was so energetic.
-- randy jackson! all star cameos, ladies and gents.

8:06 - just saw eric northman in the crowd looking smokin hot as usual.
-- CONAN!!!!!!!! he HAS to win tonight or i'll kill someone. probably jay leno. ;-)

side note: if 30 rock sweeps again this year, i'll also kill someone... probably tina fey.

8:12 - Funny gay guy from modern family wins. i am happy about this. i've only seen a little bit of that show but he is hilarious in everything i've seen. also, i love how last year and now this year the announcers are being funny. it adds a little something.

8:20 - modern family wins for writing. i'm also happy with this, except of course i always really want the office to win.

side note: i like how they're doing the show in categories by genre this year. usually it seems a little scattered. i also really hope lost wins for best drama just as a send off, even if it might not be the most deserving. that show was captivating for 6 seasons and hasnt been recognized.

8:25 - so happy jane lynch won. i dont watch glee, but she's always hilarious in movies.

commercial break--- going to get a diet coke. =)

8:31 - haha. i love jimmy's 6 degrees of kevin bacon for mathew perry. i also love mathew perry. FUNNY TIDBIT: mathew perry and lauren graham used to date. funny.

8:38 - best leading actor in a comedy series will go to alec baldwin, even though i REALLY want steve carrell to win. and...... it goes to........... jim parsons! if steve carrell didn't win, i'm glad it went to someone other than baldwin.

ricky gervais is coming up... WOOHOO!!!!!! he is on the top of my comedy heroes list.... ok maybe second to lucille ball.

8:44 - hahaha. cute little exchange between JF and NPH. i want edie falco to win. she is a bad ass. julia louis-dreyfus would be good, too. just as long as it's not tina fey. and the winner is......... EDIE FALCO! yay!!!!

haha... jimmy and celebs doing musical interludes = win.

8:47 - reality montage. hopefully this is funny...

ummm.... KERI RUSSELL'S DRESS looks EXACTLY like baby's dress from dirty dancing when they go to that other nightclub.

8:57 - time for drama. c'mon Lost!!!!! C'MON LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-- ugh, mad men. i know it's a great show, but the writing on lost was just ridiculous.
-- michael emerson or terry o'quinn better win for best supporting actor. and the winner is.... NOT them. poop.

9:12 - lead actor in a drama series... MATHEW FOX! MATHEW FOX! MATHEW FOX! and the winner is.............NOOOOOOOOOO! brian cranston. ugh. poor Foxy Mathew Fox.

9:23 - jimmy fallon as elton john is phenomenal. what's next...?? jimmy as boys II men! hahahaha. i love him so much. jimmy as billy joe! haha. awww, cut to jimmy's wife nancy in the audience.

9:32 - kyra sedgwick and kevin bacon are adorable.

9:34 - yes! conan's catergory!!!!! this might be the one i want most out of the whole night. i just want some validation for conan that doesnt come solely from his fans.
-- haha. conan's crappy old car.

9:46 - YES!!!! ricky gervais!!!! he always says, "hello. me again."
-- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! "not as much as the jews."
-- LOVE IT!!! ricky giving out beers. he is outstanding.
-- "i hope it's bucky gunts because i didnt know you could say bucky gunts on television."

9:51 - C'MON CONAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ugh, i want him to win soooo bad. second choice is bill maher. third choice is SNL. and the winner is............ BUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the freakin daily show. what a bunch of horse crap. i'm gonna go vomit now. back after the break.

10:01 - clooney is humbled. looks good on him.

10:04 - tom hanks playing along with jimmy. love both of them. do not love the mini-series and movies category. do people actually watch these? am i missing out on something?

10:14 - sooo jealous of how gorgeous claire danes is. i wont be writing much during this category. not that interested.

10:17 - jewel is singing. i know her voice is atypical, but i love it. this song is really sad/beautiful. she did a great job.

10:25 - hello, blair underwood!! and once again, maura tierney looks amazing.

10:34 - YES! cast of true blood. i only wish hoyt was there. i think it's funny how anna paquin's accent varies from new zealand to canada to american depending on the interview. hopefully true blood wins later so alexander skarsgard is back on stage. =)

10:40 - of course they let pacino have alllllllll the time in the world. GET OFF THE STAGE, BUDDY!

10:45 - hahahaha. there were only two nominations for mini-series?! of course tom hanks and steven spielberg are gonna win.
--- dear lady in the white strapless cut-out dress; you're about to spill out all over the place.

10:50 - only ten minutes left. haha. jimmy and tom selleck hug. i think as long as tom selleck has a mustache he will never age. C'MON TRUE BLOOD OR LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the winner is.................... mad men. BARF! give someone else a shot!!!!!!!!!!!

side note: none of my shows are winning, and i'm getting pissed. seriously? i know on the whole, mad men is probably a "better" show than Lost, but i really think the academy shouldve recognized how profound the impact of Lost was. so many fans were immersed the world of that show, and i just thought it would get the emmy since this was it's last year. oh well. i guess i should've known since none of my shows EVER WIN!

10:57 - best comedy series.... i know it wont go to the office. it goes to.............. modern family. i'm ok with this. like i said 23948208 times before, it is really funny.

well, it's over and pretty much nobody i wanted to win actually did. eff off, emmy's. see ya next year.

2010 Emmy Red Carpet

RED CARPET: (billy bush is ridiculous, sometimes)

i love jane lynch. hilarious, and always looks very sophisticated.

BETTY WHITE! i hope she wins tonight, if only to hear her acceptance speech.

claire danes NEVER looks bad. never. and YES! to nate burkis (sp?) helping with the red carpet. he's adorable.

jimmy fallon is too cute, and his wife is so refreshingly pretty.

kathy griffin actually chose a pretty dress this year. that weird gold/green curtain looking dress from a few years ago was awful. plain black was a good choice for this year.

just saw kate gosselin. next.

january jones is so pretty, but she's not doing herself any favors with that hair don't.

AHH! mindy kaling looks scary. but i still love her.

joel mchale is hilarious.

maura tierney (sp?) looks dynamite. i actually love the short, dark hair on her.

ugh. tina fey. i could do a better job styling you and my wardrobe is from old navy.

wanda sykes looks great.

i just wanna see jenna fischer and anna paquin... is that too much to ask??

i LOVE julie bowen... mainly because i love the tv show "Ed" and she will always be carol vessey.

i read an article a while ago that said lea michelle was a "major diva" and ever since then i just assumed it was true. she seemed delightful just then.

just saw anna paquin because NBC put her on their worst dressed list. i kind of agree. i just think the gold could've looked a little more delicate, but i understand the juxtaposition of the sleek black dress with the hard metal top. oh well!

and they're starting!!!!

Project Runway

so, this season of project runway has been a little lackluster for me. not only have the garments the contestants have made thus far been unimpressive (for the most part, there have been some really pretty things made), but the show got extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. i think the extra 30 minutes is Lifetime's way of filling their programming slots. the extra time really doesn't add anything extra to the show. if anything, the producers use the extra time to show more of the cat fights and smack talking interviews rather than showing how the designers actually make their pieces. obviously this is just to create more drama rather than focusing on the actual reason they're there. the way they (the producers) are portraying the contestants makes me not really like many of them based on their personalities. the only exception is valerie and peach (the token "old lady" this season).

however, there are a few designers i really like based on the clothes they make. gretchen made the prettiest dress on the first episode. they had to take a random piece of clothing from another contestant's suitcase and turn it into something. gretchen got this really ugly mesh appliqué jacket from contestant april's suitcase. the jacket was hideous (i thought), but the dress she made out of it was very classy and elegant.

there are only two things about this look that i don't like. number one: i wish the length was just above the knee all the way around. i've never been a fan of the uneven/asymmetrical hem. number two: i hate the boot. i think a nice pair of black stilettos or a nude pump would've worked much better. but what do i know... the majority of my clothes are from old navy.

i'm hoping in the next few weeks they trim the fat and we are left with the more creative and inspiring designers.

6 word memoir

20 years ago we became soulmates.
